Kids Summer Reading

Basic Information:

Who:

The Kids program is divided up into two age groups: 5yrs-8yrs old and 9yrs-12yrs old. When registering, be sure to sign your kid up in the proper age group (Or the appropriate reading level. see ReadSquared info to the right for more details about the age group differences)

When:

Registration opens Monday, May 22th
Logging books begins June 1st
Last day to log books is July 31st

Where:

Programming will be held at the Chelsea Community Center.

How:
Register online with ReadSquared. Be sure to sign your child up for the correct age category.

Some craft events will require registration. You will be able to find those forms right here on this page once they are available.

ReadSquared Info:

ReadSquared is the web based program we use to track your progress in our summer reading program! Sign up HERE and start logging books in the program to earn points and win prizes! Be sure to check out the mobile phone app in your phone's app store!

This year, to earn points, you will log the number of books you have completed reading. We have broken this age group into two, 5-8 and 9-12. Be sure to register your child in the appropriate age category

To level up and earn a level prize:
5-8 yrs will level up every 15 books! Your total summer goal is 120 books. This shakes down to reading 3 PICTURE BOOKS a night for 5 nights a week. *PLEASE NOTE, if your reader is reading higher than the picture book/beginning reader level, they would do better in the 9-12 category.

9-12 yrs will level up every 3 books!
Your total summer goal is 24 books.
This breaks down to three CHAPTER BOOKS a week. *PLEASE NOTE, if your reader isn't reading chapter books yet, you can place them in the 5-8 category, prizes are the same, but the points system is different.

We have divided it this way to hopefully make earning prizes fair and achievable for all of our readers!

Programming:

Tuesday:

We hold weekly movies at 1:00 at the Chelsea Community Center. Bring a drink and we will provide all the popcorn you can eat! Click the link below to see more information and our movie lineup!

Wednesday:

Each Wednesday we will have performers come and give us a fantastic show! Shows will be at 2pm at the Chelsea Community Center. Shows are geared towards kids ages 5-12, but all are welcome! Check the link below to find out all the amazing information about our shows this year!

Craft Days:

During the month of July on Wednesdays at 2pm at the Chelsea Community Center, we will be holding craft activities. Find out more information about our crafts HERE! Registration will be required and parental assistance will be needed for the younger crafters.

Monthly Programs:

Every 2nd Tuesday night we will hold a virtual music and books storytime! Check out more information here

Every 1st & 3rd Saturday at 1:30 we have a Computer Coding Club. Learn more and register HERE

Every 2nd Saturday we hold a LEGO day on the Children's floor. Come and build something awesome! Be on the look out for our LEGO Challenges to compete to win cool prizes!

Every 4th Saturday is our Hands On S.T.E.A.M. Day! Come and learn with cool fun technology and activities. Each month will be different so be sure to check it out each time!
