City Anniversary-
The City of Chelsea celebrated its 12th anniversary as a municipality on March 1, 2008.
Chelsea was incorporated on March 1, 1996 with a population of 906. The 2000 census recorded a population or 2949. We estimate the population of Chelsea in January, 2005 to be 5300. The growth is a reflection of annexation and new home construction. In 2004 the City of Chelsea issued 424 building permits for new construction. An estimated 550 building permits will be issued in 2005.
Comprehensive Plan-
A Comprehensive Plan update is underway for the City of Chelsea. Birmingham
Regional Planning, Shelby County Planning and 4-Site are assisting the City of Chelsea in this process. A public meeting was held at Chelsea High School on February 10, 2005 to gather data from citizens concerning Chelsea’s future development.
Chelsea Named Tree City USA-
Chelsea has been named a Tree City USA by the National Arbor Day Foundation to honor our commitment to community forest. It is the sixth year that Chelsea has received this national recognition. Thanks to the Chelsea Tree Commission (Judy Cain, Mavis Efferson, Katie Griffith, Jim Harper, and Sharon Johnson).

April-Support Your Chelsea Business Month-
We must support our local Chelsea businesses in order to be the best city that we can be. The City of Chelsea will not be successful without the success of our local businesses. Let’s make a special effort in April to support our merchants in Chelsea. When we support our local merchants we create jobs, revenue for the City of Chelsea, and conveniences for our people. Without support, our businesses will not survive. With your help, APRIL WILL BE A RECORD MONTH FOR OUR MERCHANTS.
